Evandro Matté

He first came into contact with music in the form of a trumpet at age 7. At 15 he was already a member of the Symphonic Orchestra of Caxias do Sul, his home town. He studied music at the Ospa Academy of Music and, at 19, he became Ospa's principal trumpeter. After graduating in music from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS, he sat a specialization program at the University of Georgia, USA, and later at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, in France.

Drawn to conducting, as from 2006, he took on the role of maestro in festivals, participating in a number of masterclasses, including under the acclaimed maestro Kurt Masur. In 2007, he took the reins of the Unisinos Anchieta Orchestra. At Unisinos, he heads a social project called Vida com Arte, which teaches music to 300 children and young adults from public schools, while helping to form active citizens. He also coordinates Show Musical and the Anchieta Art School, both part of Colégio Anchieta.

As maestro, he has worked with important soloists from the concert music scene, such as: David Guerrier (FRA), Fred Mills (USA), Pierre Dutot (FRA) and Yang Liu (CHI). Additionally, he has worked in partnership with distinguished names from the Popular Brazilian Music scene – MPB, among them: Maria Rita, Fafá de Belém, Paula Toller, Bibi Ferreira and Gilberto Gil. He acted as music director and maestro on the album “Unisino Anchieta Orchestra”, with pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gomes and Edward Elgar. 2014 saw the release of the CD “Unisinos Anchieta Orchestra and Renato Borghetti” in a collaboration with the famed musician. He has been at the head of Orchestras in Uruguay, Argentina, China, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Italy and USA.

Since 2011 he has acted as artistic director for the SESC International Music Festival, one of the largest concert music festivals in Latin America.

Matté has lectured at a graduate level on cultural management at Unisinos, having coordinated the Cultural Management Specialization Program and was the trumpet teacher at the University of Passo Fundo – UPF. Besides a broad background in cultural management, cultural incentive law projects and public management, he also holds a graduate degree in Business Management from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation.
