The Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (Ospa) is one of the foundations hosted under the Department of Culture of the State of Rio Grande do Sul and enjoys a busy statewide concert calendar. Founded in 1950, it is the second-oldest nonstop playing symphony orchestra in Brazil.

Founded over 30 years, the Ospa Symphony Choir was established to perform in the orchestra concerts as well as in other events when invited. The choir is led by conductor Manfredo Schmiedt with support from Ricardo Barpp, singing professor, and Carla Ruaro Pires, pianist.
