The Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra – OSPA is one of the foundations hosted under the Department of Culture of the State of Rio Grande do Sul and enjoys a busy statewide concert calendar. Founded in 1950, it is the second–oldest nonstop playing symphony orchestra in the country, presided by Dr. Ivo Nesralla, with maestro Tiago Flores, one of South America´s most distinguished musical professionals, serving as Music Director. Associate conductor Manfredo Schmiedt leads the Symphony Choir and has made a valuable contribution to the Orchestra. Mr. João Gastão Tellier Flores serves as Executive Director.

Tiago Flores is the current Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra of Porto Alegre – OSPA. A graduate of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, he studied under Arlindo Teixeira and specialized in conducting orchestras in Saint Petersburg, Russia, under Victor Fedotov.

Founded over 30 years, the OSPA Symphony Choir was established to perform in the OSPA Concerts as well as in other events when invited. The Choir is led by conductor Manfredo Schmiedt with support from assistant conductor Diego Biasibetti; Ricardo Barppe, singing professor; and Fernando Rauber Gonçalves, pianist.
